Coconut mats Kokopak – For growing strawberries

Strawberry is one of the most loved and appreciated fruits on the Polish, but not only, market. We all wait patiently for the appearance of these wonderful fruits in early spring, so that we can enjoy their wonderful taste and aroma. Producers of these fruits, knowing how much they are expected by consumers, go to great lengths to ensure the availability of these fruits from Polish, domestic production for as long as possible. So no one is surprised anymore by Polish strawberries in March or April, as well as in October or November.

To be able to produce strawberries and deliver them to consumers for such a long period of time, modern farming methods must be used. One of the key decisions is choosing the right substrate for growing strawberries. One of the most popular methods of cultivation is the use of coconut mats. Ceres has been producing Ceres Kokopak proprietary coconut mats for more than 20 years, and we know all about them, as well as how to prepare the highest quality coconut fiber.

Coconut mat is a specially prepared foil sleeve filled with coconut substrate. It would seem that this is not a big deal, yet to be able to provide the highest quality coconut mats you need to have behind you the baggage of many years of experience and a wealth of knowledge, which Ceres does not lack.

We prepare our mats with our customers in mind, and our primary goal is to provide them with the highest quality product, which throughout the production cycle will provide the strawberries they grow with optimal conditions for growth giving them the opportunity to achieve the highest yields.

We use only coconut fiber, which goes through a rigorous preparation process. The entire production cycle takes place in our factory, which gives us the ability to control production at every stage and guarantees the highest quality product delivered to customers. The coke fiber is expanded and washed to remove excess constituents such as sodium, potassium and chlorine, and is then buffered so that it is saturated with calcium ions, so important at each stage of cultivation. Thanks to our proprietary coconut fiber purification technology, we boast coconut fiber with the best physical and chemical parameters, with very low EC levels and optimal calcium ion content. We also pay great attention to controlling the entire purification process of coconut fiber at every stage of production. We have our own laboratory, where we check the most important parameters on an ongoing basis. We cooperate with accredited chemical laboratories that perform control tests for us on each batch of coir intended for the production of coir mats.

As important as the chemical parameters of the coconut substrate is for us to choose the right fractions. Selecting the right fractions of coconut fiber determines the success of the crop and promotes plant growth. Thanks to our many years of experience, we choose the first-class ones, characterized by the best structure and providing the best air and water conditions for the growth and development of the root system. This is of great importance in the intensive cultivation of strawberries, where intensive cultivation combined with dynamic development of the root system is carried out in a limited amount of substrate. Here, proper structure has a key impact on the development of a healthy and strong root system, which directly translates into growth and yield of strawberries.

Our range of Ceres Kokopak coconut mats gives you a choice in terms of both the size of the mat and its filling. Thus, the choice will always be optimal and tailored to your needs.

We offer 3 standard mat sizes: M20, M24 and M25. The length of the mat in each case is 1 mb, and they differ in width and height. This, of course, translates into different amounts of coconut substrate packed into a given mat, as well as the number of pieces on a pallet. The technical parameters can be found in the table below:

We provide our customers with 4 types of substrates with which we fill Ceres Kokopak mats. The basic type of substrate used is fine coke fiber with the addition of about 20% longer fibers. It is one of the most commonly chosen substrates providing very good air and water conditions and substrate stability. Due to its longer fiber content, this substrate does not settle and distributes water very well throughout the mat ? Both vertically and horizontally.

The second very popular type of substrate is coconut fiber with the addition of about 20% perlite. It has gained its popularity mainly in biennial cultivation, where the durability of the substrate structure and the stability of air and water conditions are crucial. There is also an option for substrate preparation, where the amount of perlite is about 10%.

The last type of substrate is coconut fiber with the addition of about 20% coke chips. The addition of coconut chips stabilizes the structure of the substrate and ensures its long life, and gives much better water permeability and air availability in the root zone.

Of course, it is also possible to customize the composition of the substrate to meet the individual needs of customers. This requires consultation with our specialists and a separate preparation path.

Our mats are always prepared with the comfort of our customers in mind, so all mats are made with drainage holes on the underside as standard. It is important to note that our holes have been arranged in 8 rows, in such a way as to provide the best opportunity for excess nutrient solution to drain from the mat, which is crucial for production and keeping plants in excellent condition.

In addition, our customers can order perforations prepared according to their recommendations, marking out holes for strawberry seedlings with a diameter of 60 mm. These perforations are very easy to pick by hand before planting. Both the quantity and placement are consulted with customers each time to meet their requirements.

We also prepare perforations of holes for drippers with a diameter of 20 mm, so that their placement in the mat is trivial and water does not encounter a barrier in the form of a film. In this case, too, it is possible to adjust the quantity to individual needs.
